No Gst Help On Caravans

Treasurer Peter Costello has ruled out a GST review on caravan park rentals despite criticism from Member for Gilmore Joanna Gash.
The Government has offered caravan park operators a five per cent GST on long-term tenants, or to go GST-free with no rebates for GST paid on business inputs, in a policy described as a ``stuff-up" by Mrs Gash.
Yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister John Anderson hinted the caravan park tax may be reviewed, saying: ``That's a matter that is being considered by Government." However, in Brisbane, Mr Costello said: ``It's not under review."
He said there was the option of treating long-term stays as residential rents or on the same basis as long-term hotel stays.
Mrs Gash was quoted this month telling South Coast residents: ``It's a stuff-up, there is no other explanation."
